A Yielded Heart

An excerpt from the devotional book: Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence by Sarah Young; (November 2 devotional page 321)

Scripture

Psalm 116:5-7

Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; our God is merciful.
The Lord preserves the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me.
Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.

Ephesians 5:20

20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Isaiah 30:15

15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel,
“In returning and rest you shall be saved  in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” But you were unwilling,

(read from the perspective of Jesus speaking this devotional directly to you….)

Grow strong in the light of My Presence. Your weakness does not repel Me. On the contrary, it attracts My power, which is always available to flow into a yielded heart. Do not condemn yourself for your constant need of help. Instead, come to Me with your gaping neediness; let the Light of My Love fill you.

A yielded heart does not whine or rebel when the going gets rough. It musters the courage to thank Me even during hard times. Yielding yourself to My will is ultimately an act of trust. In quietness and trust is your strength.

Questions to Consider:

Reflect:

  • Take a few moments to sit in quietness and listen to your heart. What is Jesus speaking to you?

  • How are you experiencing Christ’s realness everyday?

  • What is the best way you can shine the Light of Christ to others around you today?

(ie: being kind to your sibs, being respectful to others, taking out the trash (LOL), doing your homework without complaining, pay-if-forward)

Prayer:

Father God, when I sit still – I can know that you are God. In the quietness – you are there. In the wind, you are there. In the storm, you are there. You are everywhere at once and you listen to me. Thank you for loving me and being a place of refuge. Forgive me when I do not trust You enough or follow your commandments. Direct my heart to be Yours. Always with love – In Christ’s name I pray – Amen.
