A Prayer for When it Feels Like Winter Will Never End

By Gregory Coles, as written for Your Daily Prayer Daily Devotional, posted on crosscards.com

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1

Dear God,

Why is it so hard for me to believe that spring is coming? It’s silly to doubt it, I know. In all my years watching the seasons pass, spring has never once failed me, no matter how tardy it may seem. The sun always comes home from a long vacation to melt the forlorn snow. The grass emerges, a little brown at first, then verdant and full of life. The birds return, making nests, whistling solos into a warm blue sky. No matter how long it takes, winter always comes to an end. But even though I know it’s true—even though I’ve witnessed it year after year—I’m struggling to believe in spring right now. The world has been grey for so long that I barely remember what it looks like in color. My memories of brighter days have frozen over in the cold, dangling like icicles just out of reach. Hope is hard to hold onto with frostbitten fingers.

Why is it so hard for me to trust that You’ll keep Your promises?

My wintertime despair is about far more than winter itself. It’s the same doubt that overtakes me in every season of difficulty, every setback and sorrow. No matter how many times I’ve seen Your faithfulness in the past, each new dark day pushes me back to the edge of my seat. I hold my breath, poised in suspense, wondering if grace could possibly come through this time. My memory is so short.

Today, God, I’m not asking for spring to come before its time. I’m just asking that You teach me to cling to a hope that feels far away.

Give me the grace of memory. Remind me of the countless ways, both big and small, that You have already proven Yourself to me. Remind me that, although hopeless times have come and gone like passing seasons, they have never been the end of my story. Remind me of breakthrough and laughter and light. Remind me what spring feels like. When the cold has sunk so deep into my bones that it threatens to define me, give me warmth enough to endure. Give me crackling fireplaces and hot apple cider and blankets shared with friends. Give me encouraging words and embraces at just the right moment. Give me fresh reminders of Your love and grace, small mercies to sustain me until the bigger mercies arrive.

And then, when the time comes, please give me spring again.

Give me a heart that rejoices in the delights and sorrows of each passing year, a heart that grows warmer with every winter it endures. Teach me to believe in spring.

Gaining Spiritual Eyes

by Craig Denison

Our human perspective is so utterly limited this side of heaven. We see ourselves, God, and others incorrectly on a regular basis. To experience the fullness of life, it’s imperative that we take up God’s perspective on all things and allow him to enlighten the eyes of our hearts. May you walk away from today with a new, eternal perspective.

Scripture

“Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints.”

EPHESIANS 1:18

Devotional

In order to go deeper in God, we must allow him to open the eyes of our hearts to see him as he truly is. So often we settle in our relationship with him for that which can only be seen with our physical eyes. We settle for community apart from unity in the Spirit, God’s word apart from revelation from the Spirit, and look to “open” or “closed” doors as our guide rather than making space to ask for the Holy Spirit’s leadership. It’s time for us as the body of Christ to truly live in the fullness of relationship afforded to us by his sacrifice. It’s for this reason, in Ephesians 1:16-19, Paul told the Church in Ephesus,

I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe.

We need the “eyes of our hearts” to be enlightened today. We need the Holy Spirit to come and do a mighty work that we might no longer live only for that which is seen, but by faith pursue the unseen. Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” God longs for us to pursue the deeper things of him in faith. He longs for us to grow in our relationship with the Holy Spirit and learn to live life with his presence, leadership, voice, and love as the foundation for everything we do.

To live only by the things we can physically see is to live only for that which is temporal and fleeting. Psalm 101:3 says, “I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me.” God has worthwhile work in store for us. He has a plan to bring heaven to earth through our lives every day. But in order to make an impact on eternity we must be able to see and know the heart of God. We must become increasingly aware of how God feels and what he wants to do moment-by-moment.

Growing in our relationship with the Holy Spirit is the foundation of seeking the deeper things of God. Learning to live by and with him is the only way to advance his kingdom. Take time in guided prayer today to ask the Holy Spirit to open the eyes of your heart. Ask him to guide you into a deeper and more connected relationship with him. And choose today to pursue a life marked by deep connection with your heavenly Father and powerful works of his Spirit.

Prayer

1. Ask the Holy Spirit to open the eyes of your heart. Meditate on Scripture and take time to rest in his presence.

“Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints.” Ephesians 1:18

“Then Elisha prayed and said, ‘O Lord, please open his eyes that he may see.’ So the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw, and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.” 2 Kings 6:17

“The hearing ear and the seeing eye, the Lord has made them both.” Proverbs 20:12

2. Where have you been doing life apart from connectivity to the Spirit? Where have you been living temporally instead of for eternity?

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” John 14:16-17

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19-21

3. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you live connected to him today.

“Be filled with the Spirit.” Ephesians 5:18

“For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body–Jews or Greeks, slaves or free–and all were made to drink of one Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 12:13

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own.” 1 Corinthians 6:19

Go

Jesus promised us in Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” When we seek all the blessings God has to give such as being loved, being known, being provided for, and being filled with the Spirit, we can know that we will find what we seek. The door to going deeper in God will always be opened whenever we come to it and knock. God will never withhold himself from us when we purely desire more of him. Have faith today in the goodness of your heavenly Father and pursue the deeper things of him that you might live in greater union with him today.

Life or Death

By Robin Wiley

I have one more poem of my Dad’s to share with you before I put them away for a while.  I have a couple of others I will share on particular days – like one he wrote for fathers called “Dad’s Day” and another sweet one about friends. I hope you have enjoyed these writings of my Dad. Reading them has brought back so many fond memories of growing up, both here in Weslaco and in Minnesota where I was born. My most favorite time of the year is spring and fall. I am sure everyone has a favorite season and if you have lived in the RGV all your life – you probably think there is only ONE season: Hot. Humid. Summer!  LOL!!

Spring is a time for new life to bloom and for farmers to start the planting season. Growing up on a small farm meant we had just a few fields to plant but we had SIX large gardens around our house and buildings. Dad loved to grown vegetables, especially sweet corn, and we girls (my sisters and I) were expected to weed and water each one of them after we planted. I swear all these gardens put together were easily three acres of land! So think about weeding row after of row of plants all morning and most of the afternoon BY HAND. Yes – we weeded each plant, each row, and each garden by hand, and if it were not good enough, Dad would make us do it all over again.

What really made me appreciate our gardens was seeing the fruition of our hard labors. We had some of THE best sweet corn, sweet peas, tomatoes, potatoes and squash in the area. We sold what we didn’t need at the Farmer’s Market in town, and our vegetables always sold out quickly.

What this all simply taught me was the effort and hard work we put into things – can truly benefit us with positive outcomes. As Yvett Morales and WHS always say – “Hard work pays off!” and that is so true.

The same applies to our spiritual life. If we keep walking the path that leads to Christ in our daily lives (reading & studying the Bible, prayer, sharing the Gospel with others) we will see the fruits of our labor. He will work through us to plant more seeds that will bloom for His kingdom. Just like Dad’s poem I am sharing today – it’s all about life or death when it comes to our actions here on earth. Are we sowing seeds of God’s truth or are we too wrapped up in ourselves to be open to sharing? You may never know if a kind or encouraging word or scripture to someone in need will have a huge impact. We may not know - but God does!

Let God’s love pour into your heart today!

Romans 5:3-5 (ESV)

3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

LIFE OR DEATH

By Del Korf

As grass is green and flowers have hues

And through this life we pay our ‘dues,’

We ask ourselves, “What is the score?”

Wondering what’s on the other shore!

We often ask, “Why are we here,

We have our wealth, so what’s to fear?”

Our wealth will take us where we’re “going”

Because God’s see we are not sowing.

We’re listening to the tempters call

Be careful, ere you take the fall

Of listening to the tempters voice,

Take heart, you will have a choice.

The choice is yours, of where you’re going,

It matters much whose seed you’re sowing.

God’s seed is always ready to plant

Don’t shrink away and say, “I can’t.”

You can if you will trust our Lord

And memorize some of His Word,

Then pass these seeds along to others

You’ll then rejoice with Christian ‘brothers.’

We cannot hope to “save” them all

For most will reject the Savior’s call

Most hope to earn what ere they can

To own the earth is what they plan.

Can we bear fruit while in a dearth,

Of trying to own the entire earth?

What if, the earth we’d want to own?

God says, “It’s mine, you only loan.”

To have much wealth, is not a sin

But if your aim is to begin

To hoard and pile up your wealth,

You’ll waste your health, to get your pelf.

Then use your wealth to regain your health! (this sentence is kind of a tongue-twister!)

You are simply thinking of yourself.

‘Self’ is another word for ego

As down the road to hell we go,

But this can be changed all around

And get our feet on solid ground

By taking Jesus as our way of living

Then He, a new life to us, will be giving.

We must accept this Son of God

Then we will get His approving ‘nod.’

His nod of approval is what we cherish,

It’s what we need before we perish

And lie forever in death’s “dust”

Or, be recorded with the just!

To be among the justly living

Our heart, to Him, we must be giving.

Thus we will choose our life or death

By opting on Jesus and using our breath

To tell the lost the cost of death

Without the assurance as Christ as our head

We will end up lost, in our sins, we’re dead!

Sleeping Through the Storm

Mark 4:35-41

35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.”36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

There are some great songs in our hymnbooks and on Christian radio about storms: In the Eye of the Storm; Till the Storm Passes By; Praise You In This Storm; Precious Lord, Take My Hand; Never Let Go; and Raise a Hallelujah are just a few!

Most of them acknowledge that God is ultimately in control and many encourage us to sing and worship in the middle of the storm. As a pastor of worship, I truly encourage you to lift your voice in song to the one who controls the wind and the waves! But I think many of us should consider following Jesus’ example in this passage and try sleeping through the storm. Before and after this event, Jesus was teaching, healing and casting out demons doing His father’s work. Even Jesus got tired. Even Jesus needed to sleep. When the storm around him raged, he rested in the fact that his Father was in complete control. Conversely, his disciples allowed fear to dominate their faith so much that they even questioned whether Jesus cared about them!

My friends, we have been through some storms lately. Will we have fear in the circumstances that surround us or will we have the faith that allows us to sleep peacefully even in the most difficult times as we continue to do our Father’s work?

In Embracing the Body, Tara Owens writes about what happens when we sleep.

The world carries on around us, and God continues his great God-ing in the world entirely without our input. It’s a humbling and reassuring truth that we get to live into physically each day.”

– Tara M. Owens, Embracing the Body

Tonight, when you put your head down on a pillow to sleep, you are basically saying, “God, I can’t do any more today, I’m giving it over to you.” Then tomorrow, when you wake up, you can remember that God got you through the night and maybe, just maybe, you can make this new day about joining alongside His great God-ing instead of fretting about the storms of this life.

Dear God,

Thank You that no matter what appears to be happening around us, you are in control. Help us to focus less on the storms and more on the Kingdom Work that is already happening all around us. Thank You God for the opportunity to serve along side you as co-laborers in your kingdom. Help us to sleep through the storms of this life by trusting in You!

Questions for thought:

Where have you seen God today?

Where are opportunities for us to teach, heal and cast out demons for God’s kingdom?

How can we maintain faith over fear?

Ray Sanchez is the Pastor of Worship and Children’s Discipleship at First Baptist Church Weslaco. He is currently looking forward to the day that the storm of COVID-19 ends…but until that day, he is doing his best to put his faith in the one who commands the wind and the waves.

Call To Worship Psalm 22:23-31

I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you: 23 You who fear the Lord, praise him!  All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him, and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel!
24 For he has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, and he has not hidden his face from him,
but has heard, when he cried to him. 25 From you comes my praise in the great congregation; my vows I will perform before those who fear him. 26 The afflicted[d] shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek him shall praise the Lord! May your hearts live forever! 27 All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you. 28 For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations. 29 All the prosperous of the earth eat and worship; before him shall bow all who go down to the dust, even the one who could not keep himself alive. 30 Posterity shall serve him; it shall be told of the Lord to the coming generation; 31 they shall come and proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn, that he has done it.

The Good News About Death

By: Dr Charles Stanley, as written for In Touch Ministries, posted on Intouch.org

1 Corinthians 15:50-58

The Bible teaches that death is only the beginning for believers. God has prepared an eternal home for us, and the condition for entry is clear: Believe that Jesus died for your sins, and receive His forgiveness. Some people consider this narrow-minded and unfair. But God set up that condition for a reason.

Way back in the garden of Eden, the Lord established a rule to protect His creation: Do not disobey Me. Sin was such a serious matter in His eyes that He determined it deserved the death penalty. Yet ever since Adam and Eve’s transgression, we’ve been bound to slip up because we’re flawed human beings. And God knew that. So, to save us from the consequence of sin, He sent His Son to die in our place. Jesus fulfilled the law while taking our punishment. And three days later He rose again.

God promised in His Word that those who receive Jesus as Savior share in His resurrection. When a believer dies, the heavenly gates open, and he or she has the same triumph over death that Jesus did. In other words, when we leave this world, we do not simply disappear. We continue to worship the Lord in heaven.

A Prayer for the Anxious Heart

By: Emily Rose Massey, as written for Your Daily Prayer daily devotional, posted on crosscards.com

Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7, HSCB).

Growing up, I learned very early on that not much in my life would stay consistent and that the pattern of my life would include a lot of change, and sometimes drastic change. It did not take long for a heart of anxiety to be formed in my life because there was not much in my life that I could run to for security. As I got older, I ran toward other things, other people, trying to fill a void in my heart only God could fill. As a result, I was constantly anxious and depressed. But, after I graduated from college, my eyes were truly opened to my selfish existence and my deep desire to find something firm and secure. I realized God was the security and peace I was searching for, even in the midst of change. Change is just a part of life. How we handle that change is where we will discover where our hope and sense of security lies. If change is causing you to worry or stress out, you need not to run to other things or people to try to fix your anxiousness. You will always be disappointed, left feeling empty and even more anxious. You must run to God.

Philippians 4:6 tells us that we must not allow anxiety to overwhelm us, but instead, we are to come to God in prayer and cry out to Him with our requests, full of a thankful heart knowing He hears us.

“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Nothing is too small when it comes to our prayers to God; He wants us to come to Him about everything! God not only hears our prayers; He responds with giving us His peace and protection.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

God’s peace is like nothing else this world can offer; it is beyond all human logic or reasoning. He promises to protect our hearts and minds when we dwell on our position in Jesus, as forgiven children of God. He is not only the Creator and sustainer of life, but He is our heavenly Father that longs to protect and provide for us.

When you are anxious, do you find yourself looking to other things or people to calm your heart? We must learn to run to the throne of God first and ask for His peace to invade your troubled heart when we are faced with changes in our life that may bring about many unknowns and uncertainties. The Lord is faithful to bring peace to our lives that will carry us through the storms of life when we are tempted to worry and live in fear.

Father,

My heart is full of anxiety. Things feel so out of my control. I don’t know what tomorrow is going to bring. But I know You are the author of my future. I trust that You hold my life in Your hands.

Help me to grow in that trust when I am tempted to fear the unknown. Holy Spirit, remind me to cry out to God when I am scared instead of looking to other things or people to try to distract myself from the worry. Like scripture encourages us to do, I cast all my anxieties upon You, Lord, knowing that You care for me because You are a good Father that longs to provide for my needs, both physical and emotional.

I remind my heart right now to remain thankful; You hear every request and every cry. I continue to cry out for help. I lift my eyes to heaven and fix my gaze upon my ever-present help in time of need.

Lord, thank You for being a constant in my life. Thank you for being my solid rock when everything around me seems to be shaking. I choose to rest in Your peace- a promise that You are faithful to keep.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

New study demonstrates that angry people are easier to deceive: Three practical steps for making better decisions

By Ryan Denison

Why do so many people today seem to be in the business of making people angry?

Regardless of where a speaker or author falls on the political spectrum, fewer and fewer people seem interested in basing their appeals on facts. Rather, more often than not, speeches, articles, social media posts, etc. start with denouncing something as wrong and then doing their best to make you as angry about it as they are, if not more so.

And there’s nothing terribly novel about that strategy. People have been using it to great effect throughout the course of history. A recent study in the journal Experimental Psychology, however, helps explain why it tends to work so well.

Researchers showed participants an eight-minute clip from the film Defending Your Life and then engaged with them in a series of cognitive tests followed by a scripted interview where they fell into one of two groups.

As Eric W. Dolan describes, in the first group, “the experimenter behaved professionally and politely” before asking participants to write about a trip to the museum. With the second group, the person conducting the study “was disorganized, dismissive, insulting, lost documents, provided only vague instructions, created unnecessary work, and interrupted the participant” and then tasked the participants to write about a time when they felt angry.

What they found is that people in the second group were far more susceptible to subtle lies and manipulation about what happened in the initial video clip. For example, they were likelier to believe scenes took place in the film that never actually existed and misremember details than those who were part of the neutral group. They also tended to be more confident in their false memories than the first group was in their correct understanding.

In short, the experiment demonstrated that angry people are easier to deceive.

Serving the God of truth instead of the father of lies

As Christians, we are charged with serving the God who is truth (John 14:6), and we are infused with the indwelling power of the “Spirit of truth” (John 16:13). Unfortunately, that does not prevent us from being vulnerable to lies and deceit.

And, given that our Enemy is “a liar and the father of lies,” we must never take for granted that we can be misled (John 8:44).

So how can we guard against falling prey to believing lies and being deceived?

First, as the aforementioned study shows, we should be careful about what we believe when we’re angry and highly suspicious of those who would use that emotion as a persuasive tactic.

Second, when you feel yourself reading something and growing increasingly anxious or irate, set it down and take a minute to regain your composure before continuing. If you’re watching a video or listening to a conversation where taking that kind of pause isn’t possible, determine that you won’t make any decisions or draw any firm conclusions until you’ve had the chance to calm down and reevaluate what you’ve learned.

Third, make God a constant companion as you go throughout your day so that you’re never left to navigate those emotionally charged waters by yourself.

There are countless things in this world about which we have every right to be angry. If we want to actually make things better, though, anger cannot be the prism through which we approach our decisions.

God has called us and equipped us to be better than that.

What’s driving your decisions today?

“To My Friend Dick”

By Robin Wiley

This third poem I picked from my Dad’s lot of poetry was one he penned to his longtime friend and retired pastor of our old church (“The Little Brown Church on the Hill”) in Battle Lake, MN, Dick Grenell. He has long since retired now (am not sure if he is even still with us) but both Dick and my Dad were very much the same type of person when it came to being opinionated about things. Things being – understanding the Bible, farming, music, preaching, you name it, no topic was off the table between them.

There certainly was, however, a level of reciprocity, mutual respect and affection between them which bonded their friendship but when they disagreed, which seemed to happen a lot in my mind, they would not speak to each other for days, even weeks sometimes.

Has that ever happened to you?

I hated those times because that meant my younger sister and I could not go over to their farm in Barratt, MN where we would play with their youngest daughter, Carol. She had horses, and we loved riding horses over there. Plus they had so many cool places to explore on their farm where on our farm – after living there many years – we were all explored out.

I do recall an argument they had that was very heated, and Dick refused to speak to my Dad again, whether by phone or in person. I do not remember what the fight was about – but it did cut very deeply into their friendship. I remember Del was bothered by it and mentioned it a few times to my Mom. I am not certain, but I would guess it might have been the argument that led Dad to writing this poem to his friend Dick.

The poem reminds me of Colossians 3:13 (ESV) on forgiveness:

“Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.”

And also Ephesians 4:31-32 on putting away negative feelings and behaviors:

“Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

So many wonderful truths found in the pages of our sacred Bible on what a friendship is all about. Because we are ALL “friends” of God – so no matter what the disagreement with a friend, spouse or loved one might be – asking for forgiveness is the key to moving forward.

“To My Friend Dick”

By Del Korf

Sure, we’ve had our differences

Though we didn’t argue ‘nose to nose.’

We both had sense enough to know

It kept us on ‘our toes.’

We also learned that age-old lesson

Just stop, and smell the rose.

It’s not good to rush into things,

Nor stall around for time

To think things over for awhile

And hope things will always ‘rhyme.’

If we would set our hearts aright

And would see things ‘eye to eye’

Eventually things would straighten out

And let the sleeping ‘doggies lie.’

This little rhyme from me to you

Is an apology from me.

I hope you will accept it

For now I clearly see,

I was the obnoxious one

Who was an over zealous pest

I always spoke up out of turn

And gave you little rest.

So now I hope that you will find

A much forgiving heart,

And let bygones be just that,

So we’ll have a brand new start!

Prayer:

Father God: It is your plan that we be in harmony with you and with each other. Sometimes that is hard to do. Please forgive me when I fall short in this area, and help me to forgive myself and others who might have hurt me. Teach me your strength and patience to be a better person to those around me in my life. In the name of the One Most High – Amen!

A Prayer for Friendship

By Kelly O’Dell, as written for Your Daily Prayer daily devotional; posted on crosscards.com

“This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command… Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.” - John 15:12-15, NLT

We’re commanded to love each other in the same way he loved us, so I can’t help but think there’s a measure of Jesus in the making of new friends. As you open your life to new people, let these simple ideas help you transform a mere acquaintance into a true friend.

There’s always room for one more. Whether your life is overflowing with people, or your day-to-day existence is pretty lonely, there’s room for another real friend. Most of us have more obligations than time—but the truth is most of us haven’t mastered managing our priorities. It’s not easy, but if you want to spend time on a relationship, chances are there is something you can change or remove to make room for it—whether it’s one night a month during which you do not binge-watch Netflix so you can have dinner with a friend. Or spending your coffee break catching up by phone. Or texting something just because you know it will make her laugh. Or occasionally waking up an hour early to power-walk together before the rest of your house awakens. It’s worth the potential sacrifices. (Or so they tell me. I’m not a morning person.)

It’s not all about you. Share your own stories and be real—but remember that friendship is a two-way street. A one-sided friendship goes nowhere fast. As interesting as your stories might be, they’re better if I can share mine, too. We all want to be seen and heard and understood, so ask questions. See what you can learn. Gaining new perspectives will enrich your understanding—even if this friendship doesn’t last. Instead of wondering what you will get in return, ask yourself what you can offer. It changes the dynamics of the relationship and often results in reciprocal kindness.

Practice selflessness and generosity. Many friendships die because one person resents putting forth all the effort, so decide now to be the person who does most of the work. People are busy, and their lack of communication may not be a rejection, but a normal response to a busy life. Don’t take it personally; try again. When you invest time in your friends, they’ll know they are valuable to you—and even if they don’t respond, you will know that you tried. Anytime we open ourselves up, we risk being hurt—but when our efforts are met with the same kind of generous spirit, the relationship expands exponentially and becomes more than you could have imagined.

Above all, before all, and through it all—love one another. It seems obvious and sounds trite, but it is true: love is the answer to nearly any question. In all things, err on the side of love. By doing so, you’ll brighten the life of anyone you’re involved with, and as you practice living the way Jesus taught, you’ll see more of him in your friends, and they’ll see more of him in you.

A Prayer for Friendship

Dear Lord, teach me to love others the way you first loved me. As I build relationships with others, let them see you in the extent of my generosity, the authenticity of my kindness, and the depths of my love. All of those things are only possible through you, the God who abides with me and calls me friend. Amen.

A Prayer for Progress over Perfection

By: Jennifer Heeren, as written for Your Daily Prayer daily devotional; posted to crosscards.com

“For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.” (2 Corinthians 3:17-18)

My goal in life is to be transformed and to learn to walk in love as I continue to grasp just how much I am already loved by my precious Heavenly Father. Seeing this love will enable me to know which goals I should strive for—the goals God desires for me to have. The more I realize the immenseness of God’s love for me, the more I will make progress on goals that I would like to complete. God doesn’t love our completed tasks as much as he loves our enthusiasm to work for Him. He is pleased the entire time that we are taking steps of obedience, not just at the end. There are some things that will never be completed this side of heaven—like world peace, for instance—but God is pleased when we take steps to live in unity with one other person.

Progress toward our goals, and even more importantly, progress toward our becoming more like Christ, is an ongoing thing. There will always be more to do and more ways to grow in character and love. God is pleased when we take steps, when we step out of our comfort zones, and when we try.

Hebrews 11 says a lot about God’s happiness with our progress—otherwise known as faith:

Faith shows the reality of what we hope for and is the evidence of things not seen yet. Through faith, people earn a good reputation. We can never fully know God and His ways but we can take steps to seek Him and seek to walk in the ways that we can decipher. Even when Abraham reached the land God had promised him, he lived there by faith. Abraham confidently looked forward to a city designed and built by God. I will and should complete tasks in this life and with enough progress, the end of a project will come. But there will be another project to follow that. It’s a journey and each project will teach me something new and grow my character.

You can be obedient and make progress each day of your life, a little at a time. And God will help you as you seek Him. God gave you that good work to do and He won’t leave you until your progress is complete.

Pray with me:

Dear Lord, You made me for good works. You gave me the desire to always learn and grow in my ability to love You and my neighbors. Help me to make progress on my goals each day and not to worry about the conclusion that you may bring out of that obedience. Remind me regularly that your conclusions of every matter will always bring fruit even though the conclusion may be different than I was thinking. Your ways are above my ways.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Ash Wednesday

Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Today is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. The word “Lent” comes from the Old English word “lencten,” which simply means “spring” It is a time in which we anticipate the victory of the light and life of Christ over the darkness of sin and death. C.S. Lewis said,“happiness and wonder that makes you serious.” We should have this sentiment as we enter this new season. As the days grow longer and brighter, our prayer at FBC Weslaco is that you would experience with greater abundance the reality of God’s redeeming grace. Lent is meant to be a time of repentance, a reminder that sin separates us from God and of what it cost Him to be reunited with us. Lent invites us to make our hearts ready for remembering Jesus’ death and resurrection.
As followers of Christ we have died to ourselves, we have “crucified” ourselves. We have been crucified with Christ and this means that it's no longer we who live but Christ who lives in us. This is known as the “great exchange,” my life has been exchanged for the life of Christ. Christ now lives in me. It's not me anymore, it's Christ who lives in me.

Each and everyday we should live our life trusting in Christ. And as we wake up everyday we need to realize that we cannot do this on our own, we are in need of a Savior. Whether we be living in a pandemic, or without electricity we will live our lives trusting Christ.

We live by faith in the One who loves us and God who loves us, so much so, He sent His son to give up His life for us. To give us something we don’t deserve. SALVATION.

God loves us so much. Christ in us loves us so much. So as we begin the Lenten Season today, let’s remind ourselves that we have a Savior who loves us and we will live for Him.

Prayer:

God loves me, Jesus lives in (your name), and I will live for Him. Holy Spirit as I live in the flesh help me live by faith in the Son of God.

Street People

By Robin Wiley

I chose this poem, ‘Street People’ out of my step-dad’s collection because it was so different than all the others he wrote. Del was very descriptive of the life and journey of homeless people, and I think he was fascinated by their lifestyle, because Jesus was drawn to them in the Bible. He felt right at home amongst them, so did my Dad. He would always offer up a meal and a Chick Gospel Tract (published by Jack Chick) to anyone he would see living on the streets. “Food for their stomach and food for their soul” he would say.

People who are homeless need our love and support too. They are not to be discarded or ignored just because they make us feel uncomfortable. Greet them with a smile and send a prayer up to God to bless them in a way only He can.

“Street People”

by Del Korf

I had not shoes – my feet felt dead

I had no cap for my head.

My sleeveless jacket was so old

It had no way to ward off cold.

My pants was worn – my knees were bare

I could not wash my filthy hair.

My socks could no more be called hose

With ragged tops and minus toes.

My underwear is stiff with dirt

Included is my only shirt.

My house is now a cardboard box

It’s small – no room to hang my socks.

My mattress is of paper shreds

A tad better than most beds.

My food? What restaurants throw out,

My hunger makes me go this route.

Help from people? They couldn’t care less,

They say, “These people are a mess

And should be kicked off our street,”

They whisper this – they are discreet!

These people, by us, are called ‘fat cats’

There is not one who wouldn’t kick our “slats.”

They think it would give them satisfaction

To round us up, and put us in traction.

And give to us our daily “dues”

This would not make the evening news.

The government spends a trillion bucks

For Arab war- this really sucks!

If they should spend a measly dollar

On homeless folks, the rich would holler

About the wasting of taxpayers money

And “pork barrel” fraud, isn’t that funny?

We people on the streets are sad

Cause everyone thinks of us as bad.

We have a soul, the same as you

You have a choice at what you do.

Most street people do not have a choice

Nor is it in their right to vote

Their needs and cares, their wants and woes

Be careful! Don’t step on the “toes”

Of City and State “fathers” – that’s trouble

Be sure you don’t burst their ego bubble.

Their ego is their very kids and wife,

Some sell their souls for a ‘song’

They think that they are in the wrong

To mingle with us on the street

It’s here again! They are discreet!

The plight of us now can be told

So that “our rights” would now unfold.

Our rights are few, our sorrows many,

Rich brother, can you spare a penny?

God feeds the sparrows and the bears

He knows the number of our hairs.

Some day He’ll come and claim His own

Believers, He will, their sins atone

And take them to His heavenly home!

He’ll set us down to a banquet royal

The rich only watch, their blood will boil

Because they missed their only chance

To accept the Lord, and their lives enhance.

They ignored what Christians had to tell

Now Satan welcomes them to hell!

You have a chance to avoid this strife

For Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life!

Prayer:

Father God, Open our eyes to your Creation around us – those hurting, the ones seeking, and those who do not know your Son’s gift of love and salvation. Break our hearts to what breaks Yours. Use us to bless others around us in need and to shine Christ’s love to the world. In Jesus holy name - Amen.

Turning to God in Times of Frustration

By Charles Stanley (Posted at www.intouch.org (2/14/21).)

Hebrews 10:19 Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,

20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh,

21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God,

22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Isaiah 41:10 Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'

11 Behold, all those who are angered at you will be shamed and dishonored; Those who contend with you will be as nothing and will perish.

12 You will seek those who quarrel with you, but will not find them, Those who war with you will be as nothing and non-existent.

13 For I am the LORD your God, who upholds your right hand, Who says to you, `Do not fear, I will help you.'

In the book of Hebrews, we find encouragement for God’s people to persevere and draw near to Him. (See Heb. 10:19-22.) When facing all kinds of difficulties, many of us have a tendency to power through in our own strength. But the reality is, that’s never effective—at least not for long. Instead, God wants us to come closer to Him.

All too often, our frustrations about life impact our ability to submit to God and be intimately connected with Him. Trusting our Father requires humility—we must remember He alone knows all. But we also need to keep in mind that He loves us more than anyone can grasp.

When we stay focused on Jesus, we can take comfort in knowing He’ll lead us through the hard places (Isa. 41:10-13). As you continue walking with Him, trust that He already knows what will happen in your life—and that regardless of what lies ahead, He will never leave you.

THINK ABOUT IT
• This week, set aside a few minutes of extra prayer time to ask God to reveal His care for you—especially any situations or relationships where you’ve possibly overlooked His presence. You may be surprised just how active He is in your daily life.

A Prayer for When You Are Battle Weary

By Bobbie Schaeperkoetter, as written for Your Daily Prayer Daily Devotional, posted to crosscards.com

Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you. - 2 Chronicles 20:17

Do you feel the tension that seems to permeate the air of this world lately? Things just feel heavy. Hearts are hurting. People are discouraged and dissatisfied. It seems as if this whole world is worn down from struggles and it would be so very easy to just give in to the pull of weariness and discontent. In the middle of the strife and struggles, we can start to feel overwhelmed, worn, and just plain weary. When these feelings come, and they linger far past their welcome, what can we do to keep our heads up? How do we remain hopeful when things just seem so difficult?

Maybe a good place to start is to look at someone else who was weary in the battle and see how they overcame it. In 2 Chronicles 20, Jehoshaphat is facing a multitude that has come against him. He’s going to have to fight his enemies. However, when he seeks God’s battle plan, he sees that it is a little different than the one he might have been considering.

Maybe like Jehoshaphat, God’s plan to overcome our battles looks a little different than ours.

Battle weary friend, we do not need to be overcome by the strife and the difficulties that surround us. Let’s give up our battle plan with all of the fear, worry, discouragement, wobbliness, and struggling that it brings and follow God’s plan instead. We can embrace the peace, hope, and assurance He offers. After all, His record for victory is pretty solid.

Let’s Pray:

Lord, I admit, I am weary. Life is going a million miles an hour and I am just trying to hang on. I am tired and I am afraid when I look to the future and think about all that is coming. Lord, I know You want me to trust You through this. I know You want me to surrender this weariness to You. I surrender now. Fill me with Your strength. Fill me with Your presence. Help me find moments today of rest and rejuvenation. Thank You that You never abandon us in the midst of the battle. Thank you for your everlasting faithfulness.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Buccaneers win Super Bowl LV: How the temporal can change the eternal

By Dr. Jim Denison

Even before the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs yesterday in Super Bowl LV, the game had made history in a variety of ways:

  • The game was the first time a team (in this case, Tampa Bay) played at their home stadium.

  • The two quarterbacks featured the largest age gap ever in the big game—eighteen years and forty-five days. The Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes is twenty-five years old, while the Buccaneers’ Tom Brady is forty-three years old.

  • Brady has now won seven Super Bowls, more than any player or team in NFL history.

  • Bruce Arians, the Buccaneers’ head coach, became the oldest to win a Super Bowl at sixty-eight years of age.

  • Sarah Thomas became the first woman to officiate a Super Bowl game.

  • There were only 25,000 fans in the stadium due to coronavirus precautions. However, there were 30,000 cutouts in the stands.

Tom Brady’s story is especially unique. Consider these all-time playoff records:

  • He made his tenth Super Bowl appearance yesterday. No other player has appeared in more than six.

  • He has now appeared in fourteen different AFC or NFC title games, twice as many as Joe Montana (who ranks second). Brady has won ten.

  • He made his third Super Bowl start since turning forty; no other quarterback has made it to the big game in his forties.

  • After last night’s game, he has now been named Super Bowl MVP five times.

Not to mention the fact that he has won more regular-season and playoff games and thrown more regular season and playoff touchdowns than any player in history.

On the other hand, through the first forty-six games of his career, Patrick Mahomes is ahead of Brady in every statistical category. As an indication of Mahomes’ remarkable achievements thus far, a collector recently paid $861,000 for his rookie card, making it the most expensive football card ever sold.

Consuming 10,821 calories during the game

It is also worth noting that the halftime show was as “family-friendly” as the headliner, The Weeknd, promised it would be. As my wife noted when we were discussing this fact, we can make a difference when we take a stand, as many of us did after last year’s highly offensive show.

Because it was played during a pandemic, the game was unlike any we have seen. But the ads gave us a respite from the bad news, with a two-dimensional Matthew McConaughey and the reunion of Wayne and Garth from Wayne’s World, among other humorous bits.

One was especially noteworthy: billionaire Jared Isaacman hopes his first-quarter ad will raise more than $200 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Isaacman has personally pledged $100 million to the hospital).

In less healthy news, football fans consumed an average of 10,821 calories during the Super Bowl last year (more than four and a half times the recommended daily calorie intake). There is no word this morning as to whether we set a new record yesterday.

“With you is the fountain of life”

The Super Bowl was a welcome diversion during one of the most difficult periods in American history. Nature reports that, as the COVID-19 pandemic enters its second year, “the devastation of the pandemic—millions of deaths, economic strife, and unprecedented curbs on social interaction—has already had a marked effect on people’s mental health.”

For example, more than 42 percent of people surveyed by the US Census Bureau in December reported symptoms of anxiety or depression, a nearly fourfold increase from 11 percent the previous year.

The good news is that when we focus on the eternal in the midst of the temporal, we find hope in the former to face our gravest challenges in the latter. Such hope is a powerful witness to a watching and hurting world.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego trusted God more than King Nebuchadnezzar, and their faith was vindicated when they were miraculously spared in the “burning fiery furnace” and their deliverance led the king to praise the eternal King (Daniel 3:19–30). Paul could sing hymns in prison at midnight because he knew that the worst that could happen to him would lead to the best that could happen to him (Acts 16:25). When an earthquake freed his body, the gospel he proclaimed freed the jailer’s soul (vv. 30–34).

David testified to God, “With you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light” (Psalm 36:9). When we trust in that life and stay in that light, others are drawn to the One we serve. Then our challenges become platforms for our faith and glorify our Lord.

“A walking billboard for Christ”

This hope was on clear display in recent days. While several players on the Bucs and the Chiefs are committed believers, the faith of two players who did not compete in the Super Bowl was on public display the day before.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was named the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year, the highest individual honor in professional football. Wilson, a committed Christian, closed his acceptance speech by paraphrasing 1 Corinthians 13:7: “Remember this one thing: love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love changes things. Thank you.”

At the Super Bowl Breakfast Saturday morning, New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis received the Bart Starr Award, the only award other than the Pro Bowl voted on by all the players. It is given annually to the player who best exemplifies outstanding character and leadership in the home, on the football field, and in the community.

His wife explained their shared purpose: “Our primary mission has always been to be a walking billboard for Christ, so that others may be able to see and encounter him through us and our experiences.”

Will you be a “walking billboard for Christ” today?

My Dad's Poetry

By Robin Hayburn Korf Wiley

I grew up with the maiden name of Hayburn until my Mom married my step-dad, Delmer Korf, back in 1971. From then on – he became “Dad” to my two sisters and I. When I was nine years old, he came into our lives, and we took his last name even though he never officially adopted us. He was a hard man to love sometimes, who grew up in the Depression, and rarely showed his emotions to others. Besides teaching us a very strong work ethic and how to value & save money, he introduced me to Jesus. I originally grew up Catholic but really did not know what this “God, Son, & Holy Spirit” thing was all about or that I could even have a relationship with this Trinity. I felt convicted around the age of twelve to give my life and heart to Christ when I stepped forward in the aisle at First Baptist Church of Weslaco back in 1974 (yes, now you can probably figure out my age!!).

Without going into too much family history (water under the bridge so to speak) – Delmer, “Dad”, was a very controlling person who made it known that it was “his way or the highway” growing up. Needless to say, my other two sisters were estranged from him for most of their adult lives until his passing back in 2014. I was not.

He and I kept in touch over the years by writing letters (snail mail!), and I kept them all. Yes, I too can be a “pack-rat” when I want to be! LOL. Delmer wrote poetry over the years and even self-published a book. He told me one time it was the Holy Spirit who gave him the words for his many poems, and his main goal with writing them was to share the story of Jesus with whoever read them.

I would like to share with you a few favorites of mine over this month’s Tuesday devotionals from me. He passed away at the ripe old age of 98 years, and I would guess he is still writing poems in paradise with our Savior! Enjoy!

The Eclipse of the Son

By Del Korf

Have you ever seen the sun get darkened

as the moon got in its way?

Have you ever wondered how this happens?

Well, it happens come what may.

Have you ever seen the stars so bright

before the clouds appear?

Some seem so very far away

while others seem so near.

Have you ever wondered, “What is wrong,”

when things seem never right?

And things seem never to ‘come around’

try anything  we might.

The Son of God is always there

shining so full and bright.

If we let Satan have his way

he’ll block our shining light.

Satan strives to eclipse God’s Holy Light

to cause His Son to dim,

But we can turn this all around

by listening to only Him.

Who will keep our feet upon the Rock

that keeps us from all wrong?

When we take Jesus by His hand

our days are filled with song.

He will set our paths aright

and point us in His way,

we then will travel on His road

to live on eternally.

Has Satan blocked the Son from you

so that what ere you do or say

will please old Satan and his imps

and cause our Lord dismay?

If we have done our “homework”

by reading God’s holy Word

we’ll know that God has sent His Son

so that we could be restored.

We know that Satan will be blocked

for Jesus is our Light.

He will cleanse us from all sin

if we but trust His might!

Let’s not let Satan eclipse our Son

because the only one is Christ

who paid the price to save our soul,

and can say to us, “well done”!

Prayer:

Father God, Thank you for your Son, Jesus, who is our light in this dark world. Help me to shine that light to others by sharing the story of Christ’s love, forgiveness and sacrifice on the cross. Help me to be more obedient to you in my daily walk. Bless this day before me. In Jesus holy name - Amen.

Call To Worship - Isaiah 40:21-31

21 Do you not know? Do you not hear? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? 22 It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to dwell in; 23 who brings princes to nothing, and makes the rulers of the earth as emptiness. 24 Scarcely are they planted, scarcely sown, scarcely has their stem taken root in the earth, when he blows on them, and they wither, and the tempest carries them off like stubble. 25 To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One. 26 Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name; by the greatness of his might and because he is strong in power, not one is missing. 27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God”? 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Everlasting God

//Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord

We will wait upon the Lord

We will wait upon the Lord//

Our God You reign forever

Our Hope our strong Deliv'rer

You are the everlasting God

The everlasting God

You do not faint

You won't grow weary

You're the defender of the weak

You comfort those in need

You lift us up on wings like eagles

Victory In Jesus

I heard an old old story

How a Savior came from glory

How He gave His life on Calvary

To save a wretch like me

I heard about His groaning

Of His precious blood's atoning

Then I repented of my sins

And won the victory

O victory in Jesus

My Savior forever

He sought me and bought me

With His redeeming blood

He loved me ere I knew Him

And all my love is due Him

He plunged me to victory

Beneath the cleansing flood

I heard about His healing

Of His cleansing pow'r revealing

How He made the lame to walk again

And caused the blind to see

And then I cried dear Jesus

Come and heal my broken spirit

And somehow Jesus came and brought

To me the victory

I heard about a mansion

He has built for me in glory

And I heard about the streets of gold

Beyond the crystal sea

About the angels singing

And the old redemption story

And some sweet day I'll sing up there

The song of victory

Trust In You

Letting go of every single dream

I lay each one down at Your feet

Every moment of my wondering

Never changes what You see

I've tried to win this war I confess

My hands are weary I need Your rest

Mighty warrior King of the fight

No matter what I face You're by my side

When You don't move the mountains

I'm needing You to move

When You don't part the waters

I wish I could walk through

When You don't give the answers

As I cry out to You

I will trust I will trust I will trust in You

(I will trust in You)

Truth is You know what tomorrow brings

There's not a day ahead that You have not seen

So in all things be my life and breath

I want what You want Lord and nothing less

When You don't move the mountains

I'm needing You to move

When You don't part the waters

I wish I could walk through

When You don't give the answers

As I cry out to You

I will trust I will trust I will trust in You

(I will trust in You)

You are my strength and comfort

You are my steady hand

You are my firm foundation

The Rock on which I stand

Your ways are always higher

Your plans are always good

There's not a place where I'll go

You've not already stood

Great Are You Lord

You give life You are love

You bring light to the darkness

You give hope You restore ev'ry heart that is broken

And great are You Lord

It's Your breath in our lungs

So we pour out our praise

We pour out our praise

It's Your breath in our lungs

So we pour out our praise to You only

And all the earth will shout Your praise

Our hearts will cry these bones will sing

Great are You Lord

Llamada a la Adoración Isaias 40:21-31

21¿Acaso no han oído? ¿No entienden?

Eterno Dios

Fuerza habra esperamos en Jehova

Esperamos en Jehova

Esperamos en Jehova

(2X)

Mi Dios, reina por siempre

Mi amor, mi esperanza

Señor, por siempre reinaras,

Por la eternidad,

Nunca fallas y no desmayas

Del debil eres defensor,

Nuestro consolador,

Victoria En Cristo

Oí bendita historia

de Jesús quien de su gloria

al Calvario decidió venir

para salvarme a mí.

Su sangre derramada

se aplicó feliz a mi alma,

me dio victoria sin igual

cuando me arrepentí.

Ya tengo la victoria

Pues Cristo me salva

Buscome y comprome

Con su divino amor

Me imparte de su gloria

Su paz inunda mi alma

Victoria me concedió

Cuando por mí murió.

Oí que en amor tierno

Él sanó a los enfermos

a los cojos los mandó correr

al ciego lo hizo ver.

Entonces suplicante

le pedí al Cristo amante

le diera a mi alma sanidad

y fe para vencer.

Oí que allá en la gloria

hay mansiones de victoria

que su santa mano preparó

para los que Él salvó.

Espero unir mi canto

al del grupo sacrosanto

que victorioso rendirá

tributo al Redentor

Grande Eres Dios

Tu eres vida y amor

Traes luz a tinieblas

Das la paz, restauras

Corazones quebrados

Y grande eres Dios

Respiramos Tu aliento

Derramamos loor

Nuestro loor

Respiramos Tu aliento

Derramamos amor

Solo a Ti, (Dios)

Todo el mundo gritará

Los huesos secos cantarán

Grande eres Dios
